A BURMA VALLEY man, Johanna Chikwere, is up in arms with his son, Fungai Chikwere (40), who is accusing him of being a wizard who wants to kill him. Johanna has since dragged Fungai to Mutare Civil Court praying for a protection order. He said he now feared for his life.
The two appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mr Innocent Bepura, who adjourned the matter to today (Friday) to allow both parties to bring their witnesses. Testifying in court, Johanna said: "He is my first born son and I do not know where is getting all the lies he peddles against me from. He is accusing me of using charms for him to remain single and not to prosper in life.
"He comes to my house where he assaults me. He threatens to kill me over baseless allegations. How can I practice witchcraft on my own flesh and blood, please I need a protection order," Johanna said.
However, Fungai denied the allegations, telling the court that what his father was claiming that he did were all lies.
"Actually, my father is failing to solve the issue that has been troubling our family for years. My mother died because of his infidelity. My sister is now insane because of an avenging spirit wreaking havoc in the family. He is refusing to appease the avenging spirit and my life is just upside down. He killed his girlfriend and all these issues are now haunting us. Every woman that I have tried to marry or try to stay with runs away and accuses me of being abusive. My father knows the real problem behind our family misfortunes," said Fungai.
Fungai further told the court that his father was framing him because he did not want them to visit his maternal relatives. Johanna argued that he even had the village head as a witness to the assault and insults.
The matter was adjourned to September 29 to allow each member to bring witnesses.
