The government has instructed the National Disability Board to present a proposal for framing a policy that deals with albinism in the country.

Addressing hundreds of people during the launch of the Friends with Albinism Campaign in Harare this Wednesday, the Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, Patrick Zhuwao said the government is committed to put in place a policy that protects people with albinism to improve their livelihoods and eradicates  discrimination.

Albino Charity Organisation of Zimbabwe Executive Director, Mrs Loveness Mainato said albinos face a lot of challenges as they are sidelined in the society.

People living with albinism have expressed their feeling towards the way they are being treated in their day to day lives saying it is unfair.

Nearly 40 000 people in Zimbabwe are living with albinism.
