Duo arrested for possession of unregistered medicines in Bubi

Police in Matabeleland North have arrested two men in Bubi district for unlawful possession of unregistered medicines, at a time when Zimbabwe continues to grapple with rising drug and substance abuse.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed the arrests through a statement posted on their X (formerly Twitter) platform.
“The ZRP confirms the arrest of Tapiwa Musengwe (23) and Nigel Ndara (22) in connection with a case of unlawful possession of unregistered medicines,” the statement read.
According to police, the suspects were travelling as passengers in a Volvo truck from Beitbridge to Harare when they were intercepted at a checkpoint in Bubi on 16 February.
A search conducted by officers led to the recovery of bottles of Astra Pain Cough Syrup concealed in two satchels belonging to the suspects.
Investigations are ongoing.
