Mhlanga drifted from journalism into the turbulence of politics

9 hrs ago | 353 Views
As a qualified journalist myself, I was disappointed to see my dear brother Blessed Mhlanga drift from the discipline of journalism into the turbulence of politics.

I listened carefully to his address in Geneva. One thing is certain — words spoken abroad do not remain abroad. They travel. They shape perception. And perception shapes policy, investment, diplomacy and national reputation.

It is easy to sound bold before foreign audiences. It is harder to measure the consequences back home.

There is a difference between constructive criticism and reckless rhetoric. Political maturity is not about volume — it is about precision. It is knowing the red lines, the law, and the long-term implications of one’s statements.

Journalism demands balance. Politics demands resilience. Both carry bruises — but politics carries heavier ones.

If it were me, I would remain loyal to the profession I love. Because once you cross from reporting politics to becoming it, the terrain changes — and so do the consequences.

History rarely treats miscalculation kindly.
