Two Zimbabwe Anti‑Corruption Commission (ZACC) officials have been arrested in Plumtree for allegedly demanding bribes from Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) officers.
Brian Munyabradzi Kombora (32) and Terrence Manatse (34) appeared before magistrate Joshua Nembaware facing charges of criminal abuse of office after they allegedly solicited bribes from ZIMRA staff at Mphoengs Border Post.
The pair was remanded in custody to 23 February for a bail ruling.
The court heard that on 17 February, the two hatched a plan to extort money from ZIMRA officials for an undisclosed charge. They allegedly handcuffed one of the officers and kept her under “office arrest” while demanding money.
Security guards reportedly peeped through a window and saw the ZIMRA officer restrained. After knocking and receiving no response, they used spare keys to unlock the door and rescue the officer before filing a police report.
Investigations are ongoing.
