Botswana army commander meets Mugabe

President Robert Mugabe, met with the visiting Commander of the Botswana Defence Forces, Lieutenant-General Tebogo Carter Masire at State House in the capital this Thursday morning.

Mugabe is the Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces,

The visit by Lieutenant-General Masire is aimed at cementing the military ties that exist between Zimbabwe and her western neighbour.

Zimbabwe and Botswana have common membership in various regional and international organisations that include the Southern African Development Community, the African Union and others.

Botswana contributed immensely to Zimbabwe's liberation struggle, providing rear bases to liberation war cadres.

Lt-Gen Masire has been in the country for the past week during which he has visited several economic and military institutions, such as the Zimbabwe Military Academy in Gweru, the Chisumbanje Ethanol Plant, the Anjin diamond fields as well as Arda Transau.

He was also taken on a tour of the National Defence College which is currently under construction along Mazowe Road.
