As at close of business on Friday, October 13, 2017, Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) had registered just over 104 000 voters nationwide on the new biometric voter registration system.
According to ZEC, they are targeting registering at least 7 million voters by the time the nationwide BVR blitz comes to a close in January, 2018.
But on Monday ZEC claimed to have regeistered over 400 000 people nation wide.
MDC-T spokesperson Obert Gutu said to date, Masvingo province has the highest number of registered voters who are just over 19 000, Harare province has just over 15 000, Mashonaland East has just over 13 000, Midlands has around 13 000, Manicaland has just over 12 000 and Bulawayo province has the smallest number of just over 2700 registered voters.
"We call upon all eligible Zimbabweans, including those in the Diaspora,to come out in our millions and register to vote. If we fail to register huge numbers of voters on the BVR system, particularly in urban areas, then we have got no one else to blame but ourselves. My fellow Zimbabweans, apathy will simply ensure that the Zanu PF gangsters will remain firmly in power after next year's elections.Let's just get out and go and register to vote," he said.
