THE construction of the $60 million Egodini shopping mall in Bulawayo is set to take off with the South African contractor in charge of the project inviting companies to partner it in the building the complex.
Terracotta Trading (Private) Limited won the tender to build a state-of-the-art shopping mall about two years ago but nothing concrete has taken off.
The delays have led to speculation that the project has suffered a stillbirth with the council also stating that it did not have control over the operations of the company.
However, Terracotta on Friday said that the construction of the mall was still on course as it invited companies with traceable records to partner it in the project.
"Terracotta Trading (Private) Limited is the developer of the Egodini Mall and Intermodal Public Transport Interchange, which is located in Bulawayo Central Business District.
"Proposals are hereby invited from main building contractors, who meet the eligibility criteria," reads part of the statement from the company.
It advised those firms interested in participating in the project to download, fully complete and submit the pre-qualification questionnaire together with all supporting documentation at the given address — scm@egodinimall.com
The firm said those willing to be contracted should be registered with the companies' registrar and possess sound financials.
"To be eligible, bidders must fulfil the following minimum requirements: proof of registration with the Registrar of Companies in Zimbabwe, proof of registration with CIFOZ, ZBCA, or Ministry of Public Works in category A (unlimited), proof of registration with the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority, proof of completed construction projects with a combined value of at least $10 million in the last 10 years," it said.
The criteria also covers audited financial statements for the past three years and a letter of intent from a bank to provide performance bond.
Last year in May, Terracotta launched the construction project causing excitement among Bulawayo residents as the shopping mall is going to be the biggest development project in the city. It is estimated that the project will create over 1 000 direct jobs.
