ZANU-PF's Hwange West women's league vice-chair Beauty Moyo yesterday appeared before Victoria Falls magistrate Rangarirai Gakanje facing allegations of stealing government-sourced agricultural inputs.
Moyo (53), from Mpumelelo village under Chief Mvuthu's area, was remanded in custody to Tuesday.
The State alleges that on October 30, Moyo presented 21 national identity cards to Grain Marketing Board (GMB) official Gift Moyo, claiming the documents belonged to fellow villagers who had sent her to collect the seedlings and fertilizer on their behalf.
She was then given 21x50kg fertilizer and 21x10kg maize seed bags all valued at $1 600.
Moyo allegedly hired Clever Moyo to deliver the inputs at her homestead and paid him $1.
It later emerged that some of the people on her beneficiaries' list were not in Chief Mvuthu's area of jurisdiction.
The alleged scam was discovered after a whistle-blower hired to thatch Moyo's hut alerted fellow villagers of the loot, leading to her arrest.
