Zanu-PF's Mike Madiro bounces back

MANICALAND ZANU-PF Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) last Friday resolved to reinstate members who were dismissed from the party's structures for various reasons, with Mike Madiro bouncing back as the province's chairman.
Madiro was ousted from the party in 2013 on fraud and corruption allegations, which he was later cleared of.
The reinstatements were made during the PCC meeting held in Mutare where the party made resolutions to have President Mugabe resign or be recalled from the party.
Madiro's reinstatement came following Buhera South Member of Parliament Joseph Chinotimba's motion to have a substantive provincial chairman.
Samuel Undenge, who along with his wife Letina failed to attend the PCC meeting held at Mutare Polytechnic, was the chairman.
Chinotimba said the province had been running without a substantive chairman since 2013.
"We had no chairman since 2013. There has been impositions of a chairman. Let us agree now that there was an imposed chairman and it was a temporary chairman.
"Let us make sure that the chairman is there. The issue is that we have since agreed on the resolutions which were on the agenda. Now let us talk about the chairman who was acting since 2013. The whole of Zimbabwe we have two provinces with chairmen – Matabeleland North and Masvingo. How can we go into elections without a chairman? Let us have one in Manicaland. Let us elect a chairman now. Let us elect a chairman who will lead us into elections in 2018 and I am moving a motion to have Madiro," he said.
Chinotimba's motion was seconded by Albert Nyakuedzwa and Joshua Sacco.
After the announcement of his reinstatement by provincial secretary for administration Kenneth Saruchera, who was chairing the PCC, Madiro was quick to emphasise on the need to exercise democracy during elections.
He said the matter was supposed to be taken to the party's national executive.
"Let me address on the last issue (his election). It needs no explanation but what I want you to know is that we as Manicaland and as Zanu-PF from the bottom to the top we have what is called democratic centralism. It is a constitutional democracy. It is not only on paper but it means doing things in accordance with the constitution.
It is called constitutionalism. The issue is that I was selected by public demand. As you know, I am a selected member of the Central Committee. The PCC is the electoral body and it gives direction to the party. It should now be taken to the Central Committee," he said.
The PCC also reinstated Happiness Nyakuedzwa as the chairlady and Tawanda Mukodza as the youth chairman of the provincial Women's League and Youth League, respectively.
