'Ban sick Zimbabwe leaders from 2018 polls'

Presidential candidates for the 2018 elections must be subjected to thorough medical examination so that voters do not elect a leader who will spend most of his or her time in a hospital instead running the affairs of the country, Coalition of Democrats (CODE) presidential candidate, Elton Mangoma, said.
According to NewZimbabwe.com, his remarks comes after MDC Alliance leader Morgan Tsvangirai came out in public that he is battling cancer of the colon with pictures of a frail opposition party leader going viral on social media after President Emmerson Mngangwa paid him a visit recently.
"Physical and mental state is very critical for any leader of a country and I am willing to take the medical test first," said Mangoma.
"Leaders must be fit to rule the country, look at what was happening with the former president Robert Mugabe; look at what he used to do," said Mangoma in an interview Thursday at his office in Harare.
"Look at the amount of state money and time Mugabe spent travelling to seek medical services in the Far East."
Mangoma added, "So, my suggestion is that all presidential candidates must go for medical examination and make the results known publicly."
"Those who will be found unfit must quit politics and leave it to energetic leaders to run the affairs of the country."
President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, the ruling Zanu PF party candidate, was poisoned mid last year raising questions about his fitness despite him declaring that the worst was in the past.
Other candidates are Nkosana Moyo of Alliance for People's Agenda and Joice Mujuru of People Rainbow Coalition and other little known presidential hopefuls.
