Former MDC-T legislator for Bulilima East Norman Mpofu has castigated the police for banning a meeting which was organised by MDC-T Vice President Thokozani Khupe in Bulawayo as unfair and irregular.
Police reportedly banned Khupe's meeting on the grounds that there was possibility of an outbreak of another violence.
This come in the wake of another violence having broken out at the MDC-T Bulawayo offices during a meeting, which was to be addressed by Khupe and other national leaders.
"I want to believe the (former Commissioner General Augustine) Chihuri era of partisanship, lawlessness and taking sides in politics is being looked into with the hope of improving performance in terms of law enforcement by the Zimbabwe Republic Police," he said.
"If indeed is so the nation expect nothing but fairness in handling issues of conflict as is happening within the MDC-T. It will be highly unfair and irregular for the police to stop MDC-T Thoko meeting in Bulawayo on Saturday as already reported on the grounds that there will be violence but allow MDC (Nelson) Chamisa to proceeded with its rallies when it is known that they are the merchants of violence."
He said the it will be fair for ZRP to clear both parties to proceed with their meetings or stop all meetings.
"Silikhangele asifunibumbulu. We demand equal treatment before the law," he said.
