The MDC-T led Harare City Council (HCC) has been told to consider cutting overgrown grass along the city's roads, as this was becoming a big threat to motorists who are being obscured by the long grass when driving, thereby causing road accidents.
Most residents called on the local authority to be proactive when it comes to grass cutting considering that there are continuous rains.
In an interview with Harare Post, motorist Martin Majoni who resides in Glen View and uses Willowvale road, to and from work said failure by the local authority to cut overgrown grass in road's sides indicates that the councillors are not concerned about the safety of citizens, who are actually the rate payers.
Majoni said, "Tall grass along roads is a major problem and we have to be extremely cautious when driving. In some instances, head-on collisions are as a result of tall grass."
He added, "Surely, how can the MDC-T councillors achieve the objective of making Harare a World Class City by 2025, when they are failing to do a simple job of cutting long grass along city's roads?"
"I encourage my fellow motorists and citizens to make the right decision when electing these local Government leaders. It's really sad that someone who was voted in office by the majority of people to lead and represent them fails to provide the necessary service delivery that we need," said Majoni.
The MDC-T led HCC has been blamed for failing to regularly collect refuse, rehabilitate roads, maintaining drainage systems and providing clean water to residents despite getting its allocation in the 2018 budget.
