The Ministry Information, publicity and Broadcasting has announced that it will be launching an online news channel under the State owned ZBC.

In a statement today, the Ministry said, we  will launch the ZBC Online  News Channel  and we are continuing to aggressively pursue local content production as Zimbabwe braces to add its footprint in the digital age.

The statement was welcomed with mixed feelings as some Zimbabweans viewed it as an extension for the continuation of the propaganda machinery that ZBC  is known for.

"This is a very worrying proposal by the Ministry. ZBC is already struggling with its single station that it has and now you want to increase costs by opening a digital platform. Who will bear the price of bandwidth and all the technical costs that come with that?  Obvious it is us the citizens." Said Sibongokuhle Mthethwa from Luveve.

Another resident Jealous Moyo said, "ZBC has always been known for its ZANU PF propaganda tool, now they want to export their toxic content online. At least online we have many options we will resist any attempt to force us to entertain them."

However a Tongai Chirau a Journalism student at the National University of Science and Technology expressed optimism over the platform. "There are many people in diaspora who want to connect with what is happening local from official sources like ZBC  and the online news platform is guaranteed that it will cover the information gap that was there.  Its an exciting venture also for us as a nation at least we are joining the rest of the world in occupying the digital space. Other channels like SABC are already in the digital arena."

ZBC is looking foward to increasing their TV channels when the digital migration is completed.
