A Mozambican driver was lucky to escape unhurt after his haulage truck container hit the Seke Road flyover before falling and landing on its side.

The incident happened around 6am and the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) had to be called in to control traffic since the road had become congested.

In an interview with H-Metro, the driver, Jasta Masinga who works for the United Transport Africa said he misjudged the height of the flyover resulting in the accident.

"My left side is in pain but I don't have any external injuries," Masinga told H-Metro.

"I had had a delivery in Zimbabwe for the first time. My judgment failed me, I thought I had passed the flyover.

"I was told to use the Seke road but was not told of the height of the flyover.

"I made my delivery yesterday so I was going to the storage house to untangle the container. It is actually empty," he said.

The flyover allows trucks which are less than 4m in height and the truck's container was four and half meters in height.

According to some eye witness, the driver was speeding. Others blamed the position of the four-meter limit sign.

"The responsible authorities should consider moving the sign to the centre. It's not quite visible," said one Fungai Makwasha.

The fire brigade attended the scene some three hours later.

A similar scenario occurred early this year at the flyover when another haulage truck fell and landed on the roof of a passing commuter omnibus.
