Zanu-PF national chairman, Simon Khaya Moyo told the Egyptian and Palestinian ambassadors that the elections will be held this year as part of implementing the Sadc resolution.
Ambassador Bassem Khalil of Egypt and his Palestinian counterpart Hashem Dajani paid a joint courtesy call on Khaya Moyo to be briefed on the latest developments in Zimbabwe.
They also wanted to brief him about developments in their countries.
"The position by the Summit is in line with our position that we should conclude whatever needs to be concluded so that we can have elections," Khaya Moyo said.
"The position that elections should be held within 12 months coincides with our 12th Annual People's Conference (resolution) because this year is within the 12 months Sadc recommended.
"We have seen the private press trying to manipulate the resolution by trying to misinform the nation of what the resolution was all about."
Khaya Moyo said elections will definitely be held within the Sadc recommendation.
Elections, he said, will have to be held before the life of the current Parliament lapses in March next year.
If elections are not held by March, Khaya Moyo said it will create a constitutional crisis in Zimbabwe because there will be no Government.
He said elections could be held under the current constitution if the new constitution is rejected by the people at the referendum.
Khaya Moyo dismissed claims that the new constitution was a pre-condition for the next elections.
He urged the GPA principals and the facilitator President Jacob Zuma of South Africa to solve the grey areas that have stalled the fulfillment of the GPA.
Meanwhile, the Zanu-PF youth wing has also weighed in saying elections will be held this year in line with the party's resolution.
They took a swipe at the private media for deliberately misleading the nation about the Sadc resolution.
"Zanu-PF has said elections will be held this year and that is within the Sadc resolution," youth secretary for security John Mushayi said yesterday.
Ambassador Khalil took time to update Khaya Moyo about the developments in Egypt including the recently held elections that did not produce an outright winner.
He said they hoped the runoff to be held in a fortnight will produce a winner who will bring peace in Egypt.
He said they also wanted to have a new constitution before the presidential elections but could not produce one because of squabbling and bickering among the stakeholders.
Ambassador Dajani said Palestine was concerned about the over 7 000 Palestinian prisoners in Israel.
He said some of the prisoners have embarked on hunger strikes for the past two months.
Ambassador Dajani said Palestine's wish to be fully integrated into the United Nations had been frustrated by the United States through the Security Council.
