112 Zimbabweans die of Covid-19 in 2 days

Zimbabwe saw its second deadliest day yet in Covid-19 mortality on Tuesday after recording its deadliest day on Monday.
On Tuesday the country recorded 52 deaths and 783 new infections after reporting an unprecedented 60 deaths and 689 new infections. Highest deaths were in Mashonaland West (15), Mashonaland Central (11) and Harare (9). The cumulative national death toll now stands at 825.
All 783 cases are local cases with 251 cases from Harare alone. A total of 4 725 PCR tests were conducted and this means 17% of people tested were positive. New recoveries were 738.
The national recovery rate stands at 63.2 percent and active cases slightly came down to 9 740.
"As at 19 January 2021, Zimbabweans has recorded 28 675 confirmed cases, including 18 110 recoveries and 825 deaths," reads statistics from the Ministry of Health and Child Care.
Zimbabwe's ministry of health says, as at 3pm on 18 January, the country had 283 hospitalised Covid-19 patients. There were 186 patients with mild to moderate conditions, 84 severe; and 13 in the intensive care unit (ICU).
