1.5 million more Covid-19 doses coming

Zimbabwe is expected to take delivery of 1.5 million Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccines in three batches with the first consignment scheduled to arrive this afternoon while the last has been set for Saturday.

The Ministry of Health and Child Care confirmed the expected delivery of the vaccines as the country's inoculation campaign that continues to gather pace.

"We are receiving another 1.5 million vaccines that were purchased by the Government of Zimbabwe," reads part of the statement.

"They are coming in three batches and they will boost the country's vaccination drive."

Finance and Economic Development Permanent Secretary Mr George Guvamatanga also confirmed the purchase of the said vaccines.

Today 516 800 shots are expected to be delivered at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport at 2.35 pm, 528 000 tomorrow at 12.35 pm and the last batch of 455 200 is scheduled to be delivered at 2.35 pm on Saturday.

Zimbabwe has won several international plaudits from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and other countries for the way it has assured vaccine availability in the country.

Government has assured its citizenry the supply side of the vaccines is guaranteed and encouraged those yet to take the shots to do so.
The vaccines coming to Zimbabwe have been endorsed by WHO after both Sinopharm and Sinovac vaccines got emergence use authorisation while the others in the country also have high efficacy rates.
