Copper cables thieves leave suburb in darkness

Pumula North suburb in Bulawayo was left in darkness on Monday after thieves got away with copper cables.
In a statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed the incident saying the suspects were still on the run.
"ZRP Pumula is investigating a case of theft of copper cables which occurred on 24/07/22 in Pumula North Bulawayo. Unknown suspects cut and stole 2 x 45m x 35 mm overhead copper cables. statement. The suspects left behind 2 x 155 mm x 35 mm overhead cables which they had already cut", read the statement.
Meanwhile, on the same day, the police also managed to recover 57 scrap pieces of copper cables stolen at Northend suburb also in Bulawayo.
The suspect dropped the cables and fled from a mob which was chasing him and is also on the run.
With increased load-shedding and theft of ZESA cables, residents should brace for longer dark nights.
