Zimbabwe has begun processing e-passports for its citizens in South Africa. A newly refurbished building in South Africa will be commissioned after the country's elections.
Officials from Zimbabwe's Registrar General's office and consultants are training consulate staff in South Africa for e-passport processing. Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Permanent Secretary, Ambassador Raphael Faranisi, confirmed that the e-passport services are now available.
The official commissioning will involve Zimbabwe's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, the Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, and a representative from the relevant South African ministry, pending the conclusion of South Africa's electoral period.
Plans are underway to open additional e-passport offices abroad, including in the UK, UAE, and USA. Within Zimbabwe, several e-passport centers have been opened in various locations, enhancing accessibility for citizens.
