Despite his defeat in the recent elections for the Gwanda North constituency, Lungisani Costa TwoMinutes Ncube, a former ZANU-PF candidate, has vowed to continue serving his community through impactful development projects aimed at improving the lives of his constituents.
Ncube's dedication to the welfare of the people of Gwanda North is evident through his ongoing efforts to address pressing challenges in the area, including water shortages, unemployment, and poor infrastructure. Speaking to Sunday News from Vumbachikwe Mine, which was recently closed, Ncube highlighted his efforts to provide much-needed relief to the community.
"There is no electricity in this area and it is a disaster because there is no water. People are really suffering," Ncube said, as he oversaw the drilling of a borehole to supply water to the community. The mine's closure, which resulted in over 1,500 job losses, also led to electricity cuts and water shortages, as the mine had been responsible for supplying power to the area.
"I am currently on-site, overseeing the drilling of a borehole, with plans to drill a second one if the water quality is deemed safe for consumption," Ncube explained. "The first borehole is being drilled today, and if the water is safe, we will proceed with drilling another one to ensure a reliable supply."
In addition to addressing the water crisis, Ncube has provided support to Vumbachikwe Mine's former workers. He revealed that he had donated two truckloads of maize meal, amounting to 60 tonnes, to feed the affected families in the area, providing a critical lifeline to those struggling in the wake of the mine's closure.
Beyond these efforts, Ncube has been active in improving the educational infrastructure in Gwanda North. Noticing that children in the Wililisa area had to walk over 20 kilometers to attend school, he took it upon himself to fund the construction of a new secondary school. "I decided to build a secondary school in Wililisa to alleviate the burden on children who had to trek long distances," said Ncube.
The construction of the school is already underway, with Ncube donating 700 bags of cement to the project. He has also drilled a borehole at the site to ensure a consistent water supply for the builders and future students. Additionally, the area has been fenced to secure the premises.
Ncube's commitment to education doesn't stop there. He revealed that he has undertaken significant renovations at Sibhula Primary and Secondary Schools, where he renovated classroom blocks, fixed toilets, painted both schools inside and out, and constructed sports facilities such as basketball and tennis courts for the secondary school. The renovations, which cost around USD 15,000, were aimed at improving the learning environment for students.
"I also drilled boreholes for Sizeze Primary and Nkadhe Secondary schools to ensure that students and staff have reliable access to water," Ncube added. "At Mzimuni Secondary School, I donated chairs and desks to provide students with comfortable learning conditions."
Furthermore, Ncube's efforts extend to the provision of solar-powered boreholes in the Magwe community, where he drilled six boreholes and supplied a 75-horsepower pump to improve the irrigation capacity, all at a cost of US$11,000.
He also addressed water shortages in Spitzkop by drilling a solarized borehole and providing a JoJo tank to help alleviate the community's water crisis.
Ncube has also focused on healthcare, including the renovation of Stanmore Clinic, where he replaced the aging roof, installed new burglar bars and doors in all cottages, and fully tiled the clinic to ensure a more comfortable and secure environment for patients and healthcare workers.
Despite not winning the election, Ncube's relentless pursuit of community development underscores his deep commitment to the welfare of Gwanda North's residents. His continued efforts serve as a testament to his belief that community service transcends electoral victories, and that leadership is about making a real, lasting difference in people's lives.
"I will continue helping my community, no matter the election outcome. I remain committed to the development and welfare of my people," Ncube concluded.
