Rwanda is set to recruit more than 150 Zimbabwean teachers in a second wave of recruitment under a bilateral skilled worker exchange programme designed to bolster educational capacity and deepen cooperation between the two nations.
The recruitment drive, currently being undertaken by technical committees from both Zimbabwe and Rwanda, is part of a broader agreement signed in 2021 that allows for the exchange of 477 skilled professionals across various sectors.
The new cohort will see Zimbabwean educators filling roles in several areas, including Basic General Education, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Special Needs and Inclusive Education, and positions in higher education institutions.
Since the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on December 23, 2021, over 200 Zimbabwean teachers have already taken up posts in Rwanda, contributing their expertise to the country's education sector.
In a statement, Secretary for Public Service and Social Welfare, Mr Simon Masanga, confirmed the recruitment process is underway.
"The Ministry of Public Service and Social Welfare of the Republic of Zimbabwe, in partnership with the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Rwanda, is recruiting the second cohort of competent Zimbabwean educational personnel," he said.
Mr Masanga explained that successful candidates will be recommended for registration in Rwanda's recruitment system, jointly managed by the country's Ministry of Public Service and Labour and Ministry of Education.
"Candidates who pass the pre-selection stage will be recommended… for employment in job positions under four categories as described in the official announcement," he added.
The initiative represents an ongoing collaboration between Zimbabwe and Rwanda, offering a platform for skilled Zimbabwean professionals to gain international experience while addressing critical human resource needs in Rwanda.
Officials say the recruitment process is expected to be continuous, with more professionals set to benefit as the programme expands, further cementing ties between the two countries through human capital development.
