Mr Khulani Khumalo has been officially installed as the substantive Chief Madliwa in the Nesigwe area of Nkayi, marking a significant milestone for the local community.
The installation ceremony was a vibrant occasion attended by family members, community leaders, traditional chiefs, and government officials. It was characterised by celebratory activities and strong messages of unity and support.
"I urge all of us to respect and support our new Chief. This should come from the joy we are experiencing today," said a family spokesperson during the event, emphasizing the community's collective endorsement of Chief Khumalo.
The Chief's Council, which played a central role in the selection process, confirmed that the appointment followed thorough consultations with the Khumalo family.
"We held three separate meetings with family representatives, and they were unanimous in their choice of the rightful heir. We are therefore satisfied with the appointment of Chief Madliwa," said Chief Mtshane Khumalo, President of the Chief's Council.
Honourable Richard Moyo, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution in Matabeleland North, expressed the government's full backing for traditional leadership during his speech.
"The Government of Zimbabwe is aligning the Traditional Leaders Act with the Constitution and is committed to ensuring that traditional leaders are appointed substantively. Chiefs are not just custodians of culture, but also vital players in local development," Minister Moyo stated.
Born on April 27, 1974, in Nkayi, Chief Madliwa is married with six children. He completed his primary and secondary education in Nkayi before working in Bulawayo and South Africa.
Chief Madliwa's jurisdiction covers nine local authority wards in the Nesigwe area, serving a population nearing 36,000 people.
The community and government alike look forward to Chief Khumalo's leadership as a unifying force and catalyst for development in the region.
