There was high drama in Harare's city centre when two women joined forces to confront their married lover and business partner, Nobert Chifeya, after discovering that he had allegedly been juggling affairs with 13 other women while still living with his wife, Ellen Mutasa.
The unusual alliance between Fortunate Tibu, a police officer, and Chiedza Janet Tariro Munyoro was born out of betrayal. Both women said they were shocked to learn that Nobert, a married man, had misled them into relationships under false pretences — including claims that his wife was dead.
Fortunate, who is stationed at Chitungwiza Police Camp Clinic, had partnered with Nobert to open an unregistered maternity clinic called Mbuya Nyarai in Budiriro 5B. However, the venture collapsed after health officials shut it down only months after opening.
As their business and romantic relationships with Nobert soured, the two women took legal action, accusing him of fraud and manipulation.
In a startling confession, Nobert admitted to his involvement with both women.
"I am a married man, but I fell in love with Fortunate. We opened a clinic together. I had deliveries before it was closed. The equipment was supplied by both Fortunate and Chiedza. When they discovered my other lovers, they united against me," he said.
He went on to accuse Fortunate of abusing her position in the police service.
"Fortunate dragged me to the police several times, taking advantage of her position as an Assistant Inspector, while Chiedza claims to have political connections. Fortunate even involved her relative, Yaphet, claiming he was a Central Intelligence Officer — only to find out he's just a security guard," Nobert claimed.
Fortunate, speaking through tears, said she had invested everything she owned into the failed clinic.
"I wanted to establish my own clinic. When I met Nobert, he promised to support me with equipment. I took loans and even sold my car to finance the project. Then I discovered his other relationships — and that his wife was alive, contrary to what he had told me," she said.
Chiedza echoed the sentiment, describing Nobert as a manipulative charmer.
"Nobert is not wise. He seduces women to exploit them. I lost a significant amount of money, not knowing I was one of many victims," she said.
Nobert's wife, Ellen, who has been married to him for 14 years and shares three children with him, expressed her frustration.
"My husband is a known womaniser. You have written about his affairs before, and he shows no signs of stopping. These women were deceived, but they should have done their homework. Nobert has destroyed many lives," she said.
Nobert, who once made headlines for allegedly dating nine women at the same time, now faces fresh scrutiny after the number of his alleged lovers has reportedly risen to 15 — leaving a trail of broken hearts, financial loss, and public embarrassment in his wake.
