Johane Marange congregant remanded over rape of teen girl

BINDURA - A member of the Johane Marange apostolic sect, Michael Eddington Muteya, has been remanded in custody after appearing before the Bindura Regional Magistrates Court on charges of raping a 15-year-old girl.

Muteya was remanded to November 27 by Magistrate Elisha Singano.

According to the state, led by prosecutor Clever Nyapfani, the incident occurred in September when Muteya allegedly met the complainant and asked her to accompany him to her mother's place in Bindura. On the way, he reportedly raped her once without protection.

The matter was reported to Bindura police, leading to Muteya's arrest.
