Former Zanu-PF South MP Shadreck Mashayamombe has resurfaced in the ruling party's leadership structures after being co-opted as district secretary for local government.

The appointment was made on Friday by the Rex Nhongo District, Zone 6, during a meeting held at the Saturday Retreat in Churu Constituency.

Mashayamombe, who once served as Harare provincial commissar, was expelled from Zanu-PF in November 2017 for alleged links to the G40 faction in the aftermath of the military intervention that removed the late former President Robert Mugabe from power and ushered President Emmerson Mnangagwa into office.

He was readmitted into the party in 2023 as an ordinary card-carrying member, marking the first step in his political rehabilitation.

His co-option into a substantive district leadership position signals his full return to frontline party politics and a renewed presence in Zanu-PF's organisational structures.
