PLUMTREE - A 22‑year‑old woman has been sentenced to one year in jail after assaulting her father's girlfriend with a cooking stick.
Sithelo Ngwenya was convicted by Plumtree magistrate Joshua Nembaware on Tuesday.
Ngwenya escaped serving the full sentence after Nembaware suspended six months on condition of good behaviour, while the remaining six months were converted to 210 hours of community service.
The court heard that on December 12, Selusiwe Ndlovu was called by her boyfriend, Ngwenya's father, to his house. Upon arrival, Ngwenya accused Ndlovu of being in an intimate relationship with her father and became violent.
She picked up a cooking stick and struck Ndlovu on the head, causing a deep cut.
Sheila Nyathi prosecuted.
