The city of Victoria Falls is seeing a major boost in road infrastructure through a rehabilitation programme funded by the Zimbabwe National Road Administration (ZINARA), focusing on key routes in low-density and industrial areas.
ZINARA allocated ZWG 6.6 million to the council for the works, with ZWG 3.4 million already spent by September 2025, reflecting a 52 percent utilisation rate. In addition, 10,358 litres of fuel were budgeted, of which 5,000 litres had been used for the project by the same period.
The programme prioritises the resealing of Ramsey Road in the industrial area (0.4 km) and Courtney Selous Road (1.4 km) in a low-density suburb, with Masimba Holdings contracted to carry out the work.
City Engineer Bongani Dube explained that preliminary works, including pothole patching and crack sealing, had been completed before resealing. "This seal coat strengthens the road, extending its lifespan by over three years. Our goal is to keep our entire network trafficable and in good condition," he said.
In addition to these major reseals, the ZINARA funding supports routine maintenance, including drain cleaning, vegetation control, and gravelling of roads in residential areas. Eng Dube emphasised that maintaining quality infrastructure is crucial for both local mobility and Victoria Falls' reputation as a premier tourist destination.
The ongoing upgrades form part of a concerted effort to enhance the city's infrastructure and ensure safe, reliable roads for residents and visitors alike.
