Popular Zimdancehall musician Romeo Antony, known professionally as Shinsoman, along with four companions, has been fined US$200 each by a Mbare magistrate after admitting to smoking dagga.
The five - Antony (37), Themba Sibanda (26), Shumba Tendai (43), Kennedy Simbanegavi (37), and Cosmas Muzanzi (41) - appeared before Mbare magistrate Rangarirai Gakanje. In addition to the fines, they were each sentenced to three months in prison, suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour. A default prison term of four months applies should they fail to pay the fines.
The charges stem from an incident on 5 January 2026 at around 18:30, when detectives on a follow-up operation observed the five standing near a parked Mercedes Benz exchanging a cigarette suspected to be dagga.
Detectives approached the group, identified themselves, and seized the suspected dagga cigarette from Antony. The accused were then arrested and taken to CID Drugs and Narcotics for further management.
The court's sentence reflects Zimbabwe's ongoing enforcement of its drug laws, including penalties for possession and use of cannabis.
