South African property developer McCormick has announced plans to build the $100-million Mall of Zimbabwe in Borrowdale, Harare, marking one of the largest private retail investments in the country's history.

The development is expected to offer approximately 90,000 square metres of retail space, hosting over 150 local and international brands. Construction is slated to begin early this year, with the project set to create thousands of jobs both during the building phase and upon completion, spanning retail, logistics, and service sectors.

The Mall of Zimbabwe comes as the country seeks to revitalise its infrastructure and attract private investment, signaling confidence in Zimbabwe's growing consumer market and economic recovery. Analysts say the project could position Harare as a major retail hub in the region, providing modern shopping experiences and boosting local employment.

McCormick has indicated that the mall will incorporate contemporary design elements, including ample parking, integrated leisure spaces, and digital-ready facilities, aligning with international retail standards. Once complete, the Mall of Zimbabwe is expected to become a key destination for shoppers across the country and beyond.
