The University of Zimbabwe (UZ) has warned the public against fraudulent advertisements circulating on social media and other platforms claiming to relate to the August 2026 first-year undergraduate enrolment.

In a notice issued by the Division of the Deputy Registrar (Academic), Doreen Tirivanhu said the university had noted with concern misleading campaigns suggesting that applications for the August 2026 intake were already open.

"The University of Zimbabwe notes with concern the circulation of advertisements and campaigns purporting to relate to the August 2026 first-year undergraduate enrolment," the notice said.

UZ clarified that applications for the August 2026 undergraduate intake have not yet opened. The institution said it will, in due course, roll out an official career guidance and awareness campaign to provide prospective students with accurate information on its academic programmes and application procedures.

According to the notice, the awareness campaign will be conducted exclusively through official UZ platforms, including the university's website, its verified Facebook page, Pachikomo FM 95.2, as well as national radio and television stations.

"The opening of application platforms will only take place after the conclusion of the official awareness campaign," Tirivanhu said, adding that dates and procedures would be communicated strictly through authorised channels.

The university also cautioned members of the public against individuals or entities demanding payment to facilitate first-year enrolment.

"The University of Zimbabwe does not conduct enrolment business through WhatsApp or other unofficial social media platforms," Tirivanhu emphasised.

UZ urged prospective applicants, parents and guardians to remain vigilant and rely solely on official communication channels to avoid falling victim to scams, saying any legitimate enrolment information would be widely publicised through recognised university outlets.

The warning comes amid a rise in online scams targeting prospective university students, particularly during periods leading up to new academic intakes.
