Man arrested with 1,180 mandrax tablets in Strandfontein

CAPE TOWN — South African Police Service (SAPS) Tactical Response Team members have arrested a 45‑year‑old man in Bayview, Strandfontein, following the seizure of 1 180 mandrax tablets during an intelligence‑driven operation.
Police said the arrest was made at identified premises in Nautical Close, where officers recovered 11 bags containing 1 000 mandrax tablets, 18 bags containing 100 tablets, and one bag containing 80 tablets. An undisclosed amount of cash was also seized. The value of the drugs has not yet been determined.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s Court once he has been formally charged.
SAPS said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to remove drugs from communities under broader crime‑fighting initiatives such as anti‑narcotics enforcement and community safety campaigns.
