A RUSAPE family has been left without a breadwinner following the tragic death of Morris Majiri, who was fatally injured after being run over by his own vehicle at his home in Crocodile suburb last week.
Majiri, the owner of Staunch Hardware in Rusape, was driving his Nissan Caravan when it became stuck in a ditch near his residence. He disembarked to assess the situation, but as he stood in front of the vehicle, it suddenly lurched forward.
The vehicle trapped him between its bumper and a water meter slab, crushing his leg.
Experts warn that drivers should always shift into park and apply the handbrake when stopping, especially on slopes, to prevent such accidents.
Sources said that Majiri's tenant, Isaac Kudzanai, rushed to the scene after hearing screams from passengers inside the vehicle. Kudzanai managed to reverse the car, freeing Majiri, who was immediately taken to Rusape General Hospital.
He was treated and discharged, but his condition deteriorated five days later due to internal bleeding.
Sadly, on January 16, around midnight, Majiri's condition worsened while he was at home with his wife.
He died before he could be taken back to hospital.
He was laid to rest on Monday morning at Silverbow Cemetery in Rusape.
Another source revealed that an autopsy conducted at the hospital showed Majiri had sustained severe internal injuries, including a damaged kidney and a ruptured lung.
Efforts to obtain a comment from National Police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi were unsuccessful, as he said he was out of the office.
