Gweru City Parking has announced an extension of its parking fee exemption to senior citizens and veterans of the liberation struggle as part of its corporate social responsibility initiatives.
In a notice, the company urged eligible drivers to register their vehicles in their own names to prevent misuse of the exemption. Registration began on January 6, 2026, at the company's CBD offices, with applicants required to provide copies of their vehicle registration book, national ID, driver's licence, and proof of residence.
Speaking on the initiative, Gweru City Parking general manager Alphanette Gemu said the move was meant to acknowledge the contributions of senior citizens to the community and honour the role war veterans played in liberating the country.
"This exemption is our small token of appreciation for the invaluable contributions they have made to society, which should never be taken for granted," Gemu said.
Gemu has previously led corporate responsibility projects, including donating wheelchairs to people with disabilities through the Mayor's Cheer Fund.
Newly appointed Gweru town clerk Livingston Churu said last year that the city highly values its senior citizens and is working closely with Gweru City Parking to ensure their needs are met.
