The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have arrested a 35-year-old man in Murewa in connection with a string of robbery, unlawful entry and theft cases reported in the area.
Trust Vengai Tito was apprehended on 6 February 2026 after detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Murewa received a tip-off that he was allegedly keeping stolen property at his homestead.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest in a statement.
"The arrest follows a tip-off received by detectives from CID Murewa… to the effect that the suspect was in possession of property suspected to have been stolen at his homestead in Murewa," said Commissioner Nyathi.
Police conducted a search and recovered a damaged cash safe, a Nissan AD vehicle (registration number AGX 1873) believed to have been used as a getaway car, and various household goods. The recovered items include electrical appliances, solar equipment and groceries, some of which have already been positively identified by complainants.
According to the ZRP, Tito is assisting police with investigations into two robbery cases and 18 counts of unlawful entry and theft allegedly committed at residential homes, business centres, schools and shops in and around Murewa.
The suspect has since appeared in court.
Investigations are continuing, with two alleged accomplices - Bethel Matema and Baba Bhibhi - still at large.
Commissioner Nyathi commended members of the public for providing information that led to the arrest and urged citizens to report criminal activity promptly. He also warned against purchasing goods from unknown or suspicious sources, as this may fuel criminal activities.
