MAZOWE – Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona has urged contractors working on national road projects to speed up construction works and meet set deadlines, saying the government is determined to improve key transport corridors across the country.

Speaking during the commissioning of the completed Mazowe road section from Christon Bank junction to Blueridge, Mhona said contractors must accelerate progress on major routes such as the Beitbridge–Bulawayo–Victoria Falls Road and the Gwanda–Maphisa Road to support tourism, business and trade.

“Meanwhile, we urge all our contractors to adhere to prescribed deadlines. They should speed up their paces on our roads so that those areas which were previously known to be inaccessible will ensure ease of access and smooth traffic movements,” Mhona said.

“We kindly request them to speed up construction and maintenance for convenience to our tourism, trade and general business corridors. We will make sure that President Mnangagwa and his administration’s policy of leaving no one and no place behind is realised within the prescribed time‑frames.”

Mhona dismissed perceptions of marginalisation, saying no region would be excluded from national development as Zimbabwe prepares for its 46th Independence Day celebrations to be hosted in Matabeleland South.

“There will be no one and no place to be left behind in the development trajectory. We are also happy that most of these contractors have shown capacity and managed to finish their sections within prescribed time‑frames,” he said.

He added that the number of contractors on the Gwanda–Maphisa Road had been increased to ensure completion ahead of the national celebrations.

The Ministry has also opened the completed Bulawayo–Nkayi Road section in the Inyathi area to traffic. Responding to requests from citizens and legislators, government will extend the dualisation stretch to Mazowe and relocate the toll gate between the National Defence University and the New Parliament roundabout to just after Mazowe.

Mhona’s remarks reinforce government’s commitment to upgrading Zimbabwe’s road network in line with National Development Strategy 2 (NDS1) and Vision 2030.
