Chegutu man jailed 6 years for raping niece

An 18‑year‑old man from Chegutu has been jailed for an effective six years after the Chinhoyi Regional Magistrates' Court convicted him of raping his 25‑year‑old relative.
The court heard that on 21 September 2025, at around 11pm, the victim was asleep at home when the offender — who is her uncle — pushed open the bedroom door, entered the room and raped her. He then left without saying anything.
The victim reported the matter to her mother the following morning, and a police report was filed, leading to the offender's arrest.
He was sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment, with four years suspended on condition of good behaviour, leaving him to serve an effective six years.
Authorities said sexual violence remains a serious violation of women's rights and continues to undermine the social fabric.
