A 42-year-old man, John Nazaza, tragically died at Kadoma General Hospital last week after being stabbed while relieving himself in a bushy area near Munyaradzi High School.

Family spokesperson Leo Nazaza said John was attacked by two unidentified men who stole his cell phone. "John developed a running stomach at around 7pm and went to a nearby bush, just metres from the house, to relieve himself. That area, used by many people in Ward 3, has been the only option since the local toilets have been blocked for some time," he explained.

According to the family, John carried his small phone to use as a torch and passed by several tuckshops on his way. Moments later, they were informed he was lying in a pool of blood, badly injured. "He told us two young men had attacked him, stabbed him, and stolen his phone before running towards the railway line," Leo Nazaza said.

John was rushed to Kadoma General Hospital, but despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries. He was laid to rest on Saturday at Rimuka Cemetery.

Ward 3 Councillor Albert Chitsa acknowledged the role of the malfunctioning toilet system in the tragedy. "I'm very sorry for the loss of John's life in such a gruesome way. The toilets along Makufa Street and surrounding areas have not been functioning properly, but we have now prioritised service delivery. We've increased our plumbing workforce and will be laying new, bigger pipes in Ward 3 to prevent future blockages," Chitsa said.

The incident has sparked concerns among residents about the dangers posed by inadequate sanitation infrastructure, highlighting the urgent need for functional public toilets in the area.
