British-born Zimbabwean midfielder Teshaun Murisa has signed his first professional contract with Arsenal FC at the age of 17, marking a major milestone in his football journey.
Murisa has been part of Arsenal's academy setup since he was six years old, progressing through the ranks at Hale End. Surrounded by his family at the Sobha Realty Training Centre on Tuesday, the teenager described the moment as the fulfilment of a lifelong dream.
"I'm very delighted to achieve my dream of signing my first professional contract, especially with such a big club like Arsenal," he said. "I've been here since I was six, so it means even more to me, and I'm just really thankful to my family for always supporting me. We've been through a lot together, so having them here is like how they've been with me forever, so it just means more."
Having spent around a decade developing within the Hale End academy system, Murisa has risen alongside a close-knit group of teammates. Together, they lifted the Under-16 Premier League Cup and featured in the FA Youth Cup against Manchester United FC at the Emirates Stadium.
The young midfielder credits those shared experiences and friendships for shaping both his character and his game.
"I think it helps us really connect together, not just on the pitch, but as friends as well. We've become more like a family. So I really love playing with them, seeing them every day and just being around them," he said, highlighting teammates such as Maalik Hashi, Saurap Sampang and Max Dowman.
Murisa also spoke about drawing inspiration from Arsenal's senior squad, particularly England international Declan Rice.
"I think it's really important to have players in the first team who you want to be like, because it gives you a goal that you need to aspire for and that you want to reach. Especially certain players like Declan Rice, they give you advice and help and tips on what you need to do to get to their level."
The signing represents another step forward for the talented midfielder, who now sets his sights on breaking into Arsenal's first team and continuing his steady rise in English football.
