U.S. President Donald Trump has sharply criticized Britain's Prime Minister Keir Starmer for declining to support Washington in its military stance toward Iran, warning that the so-called "special relationship" between the two countries is under strain.
Speaking publicly, Trump said, "He has not been helpful…I never thought I'd see that. I never thought I'd see that from the UK," referring to Starmer.
He described the historic alliance between the U.S. and the U.K. as having shifted dramatically. "It's a different world, actually. It's just a much different kind of relationship that we've had with your country before," Trump added.
Trump also expressed surprise that what he described as the once "most solid of all" alliances is now facing pressure, suggesting that the U.S. may no longer depend on Britain to support its military operations in the Middle East.
"It's not going to matter, but [Starmer] should have helped… he should have," Trump said, reiterating his disappointment with the British Prime Minister's position.
The comments highlight ongoing debates over the nature of U.S.-U.K. cooperation on foreign policy and military engagements in the Middle East.
