Police in Norton have arrested a foreign national for alleged fraud, externalisation of funds and unlawful possession of dagga.

National Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest, saying the suspect is accused of defrauding another foreign investor of US$1.5 million in a mining investment deal.

Nyathi said the suspect was arrested on 14 March 2026 at Norton Tollgate while travelling in a black Lexus SUV with three other individuals. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of prepared dagga.

A subsequent search at the suspect's Borrowdale residence in Harare resulted in the recovery of approximately 10 grammes of suspected gold nuggets. Police are now verifying whether the suspect holds a valid permit for the gold.

Nyathi urged members of the public, particularly investors, to conduct thorough due diligence and verify mining claim ownership with relevant authorities before entering into any agreements.
