Former Nkayi South Zanu PF legislator Stars Mathe has dismissed claims that she hijacked Dimpamiwa Primary School’s 100th anniversary celebrations and forced school authorities to make her the Guest of Honour.
A villager had earlier alleged that Mathe threatened school officials and imposed herself on the programme, sparking community outrage.
Responding through a voice note, Mathe said the accusations were baseless and stemmed from ignorance about how guests of honour are selected.
“A farmer can be a guest of honour, a businessman with no political links can be a guest of honour, even someone from Mashonaland East can come here and be a guest of honour,” she said.
“It was the will of the people of Nkayi at Dimpamiwa to make me the guest of honour. Regardless of losing the election, I am a Nkayian. I was born here, I grew up here, I taught here, and people know me — if not more than 100%. Anyone can ask me for anything.”
Mathe said her track record as MP justified her continued involvement in community activities.
“In three years — because two years were during Covid — I left new secondary schools built through the Constituency Development Fund and donations. I left Sagonda Secondary, Honey Secondary and Dabe Secondary as new schools. I left a science block at Simbongwe Secondary,” she said.
“I gave villagers cement to construct several dams. I built classroom blocks in many schools, including the block being opened at Dimpamiwa. I contributed 50 bags of cement and other materials for that block.”
She denied claims that Zanu PF forced itself onto the school event.
“Do not tell people lies. If you have a personal vendetta against me, come to my inbox and let’s talk,” she said.
The villager who raised the allegations had accused Mathe of exploiting the school’s milestone for political gain and intimidating school authorities into compliance. He claimed the centenary celebrations, expected to run throughout the year, had been tainted by politics and fear.
Mathe could not be reached for further comment.
