Hip-hop artist T-Gonzi made an unexpected return to Harare Central Prison on Sunday, just two days after his release, where he thanked prison officials and inmates who supported him during his incarceration.
T-Gonzi was released on Friday after successfully appealing his sentence and was granted bail, marking a swift transition from inmate to visitor.
During his visit, he performed for inmates and delivered a message of hope, encouraging them to remain focused on rehabilitation and personal transformation.
"I am here today to give my special thanks to ZPCS staff and fellow inmates who walked with me through the journey when my life was down," he said.
He added that he is currently in a period of self-reflection and intends to stay away from media attention as he rebuilds his life.
Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) officials welcomed the visit, describing it as a positive example of rehabilitation in action. Commissioner Charity Gezi, Officer Commanding Harare Metropolitan Province, said T-Gonzi's return demonstrated the institution's commitment to humane correctional practices.
The event was also attended by Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Barbara Rwodzi, who reiterated government support for rehabilitation programmes aimed at transforming prisons into centres of reform.
She encouraged inmates to support one another and avoid reoffending, stressing the importance of discipline and mutual respect within correctional facilities.
Authorities say such engagements form part of broader efforts to promote reintegration and reduce repeat offending among former inmates.
