Mutare-based tax consultant Daniel Mahonye, also known as Daniel Moyana, has been arrested on allegations of forgery linked to a long-running mining company ownership dispute.

Mahayaghe was reportedly arrested on April 24, 2026, by detectives from the CID Anti-Corruption Unit (PACU) in a case now being handled at PACU headquarters in Harare under reference ZRP Mutare Central CR 33/10/25.

He spent two nights in custody at Mutare Central Police Station before briefly appearing in court on April 27. He was subsequently released by district public prosecutor Tirivanhu Mutyasira and is expected to appear at the Rotten Row Magistrates Court for further proceedings.

He is being represented by lawyers Farai Matinhure of Gonese & Ndlovu and Innocent Mandikate of Mugadza Chinzamba & Partners.

Prosecutors allege that Mahonye was initially engaged in 2013 by Andries Hendrick Joubert to provide tax consultancy services for Joubert Crushers & Transport (Pvt) Ltd and to assist in registering Joubert Mining (Pvt) Ltd.

The State claims that in subsequent years, Mahonye unlawfully altered company ownership records, removing Joubert and his family members as shareholders and directors, and instead listing himself and his wife, Selina Mahonye (also known as Selina Moyana), as the new owners.

It is further alleged that he submitted documents bearing forged signatures of the original directors to the Registrar of Companies in order to effect the changes.

The dispute escalated in March 2025 when Mahonye allegedly arrived at Sheerluck Mine in Fern Valley — also known as Joubert Crushers — accompanied by a High Court order declaring him and his wife sole directors of the company.

He is accused of attempting to evict Joubert's family and take control of mining operations.

However, the attempt reportedly collapsed after it emerged that the mine is registered in Joubert's personal name rather than the company, preventing Mahonye from lawfully assuming control.

Authorities say he briefly restricted access to the site before Joubert obtained a High Court order restoring his rights and blocking any interference.

Investigations into the alleged forgery and related corporate disputes are ongoing as the matter proceeds through the courts.
