Zimbabwe Republic Police has arrested four men in connection with a series of house break-ins across Masvingo in which property worth more than US$14,000 was stolen.

Police identified the suspects as Peace Mandizvidza, 32, Edward Sibanda, 27, Tapiwa Tagwirei, 27, and Kumbulani Sibanda, 25. The group is linked to 10 cases of unlawful entry and theft committed between December 2025 and April 2026.

According to police, the suspects targeted residential properties while homeowners were away, breaking into houses and stealing household goods including television sets, refrigerators, blankets and other valuables.

Authorities said property worth US$14,330 was stolen during the alleged crime spree. So far, police have recovered items valued at US$10,305, including two television sets, a deep freezer, blankets and several other household goods.

The suspects are assisting police with investigations and are expected to appear in court soon.

The arrests come amid growing concern over residential burglaries in urban areas, with police urging residents to strengthen household security measures.

Police advised homeowners to always lock doors, windows and burglar bars, even during short absences, noting that many break-ins occur when criminals exploit easy access to unattended homes.

Authorities also urged residents to avoid publicly disclosing travel plans on social media and encouraged the use of outdoor lighting and neighbourhood watch initiatives to deter criminal activity.

Police further recommended that homeowners keep records of serial numbers and photographs of valuable items to assist in recovery efforts in the event of theft.
