Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo has offered a Toyota Aqua and US$10,000 to a Dynamos supporter who asked him to donate a bus to the club during a live radio interview.
The unnamed fan made the request during a phone-in segment when Chivayo appeared on Capitalk FM in an interview hosted by Phathisani Sibanda.
Posting on his social media pages on Saturday, Chivayo said he was still waiting for registration details for the Dynamos bus donation. He added that he would also hand over a US$50,000 bonus for the players at the same time.
Chivayo was responding to a video shared by Dynamos owner Bernard Marriot Lusengo, who thanked him for "what he has done for the club."
During the radio appearance, Chivayo also pledged US$1,000 each to the 30 employees at the Zimpapers-owned station, describing the money as "for lunch."
He said he had handed over US$30,000 to station manager Comfort Mbofana. However, it later emerged that company policy at Zimpapers prevents employees from accepting gifts worth more than US$100.
Following the revelation, Chivayo demanded the return of the remaining US$27,000 and later proposed an alternative arrangement.
He said the workers could instead receive interest-free loans of US$2,000 each, repayable over 10 years with a five-year grace period.
"This means they will only start paying me back in 2031, and their monthly instalment will be 33 dollars for 10 years till 2036," Chivayo wrote on social media.
"This is a very small transaction, so no security is required, and no loan agreement will be signed. If any of them are interested, they can advise PHATHISANI, and I will mobilise the funds and hand it over to them outside working hours and work premises."
