Bosso dragged to court over Botswana camp debt

Zimbabwe football giants Highlanders F.C. have been taken to court by a Botswana company over an unpaid balance linked to the club's pre-season training camp in Gaborone.

Gilport Enterprises, which organised the team's camp in Botswana, claims Highlanders still owes US$5 820 after failing to fully settle payments for the trip despite repeated demands.

The company, represented by lawyer Byron Sengweni of Sengweni Legal Practice, says Highlanders contracted it to provide a full pre-season package that included accommodation, meals, training facilities and friendly matches ahead of the new football season.

According to a letter of demand served on March 5, the total amount due for the camp was US$48 020, but the club allegedly paid only US$42 200.

"We are informed that you were supposed to pay US$48 020. We are told you paid US$42 200, leaving a balance of US$5 820. As per the agreement, you were supposed to pay the balance within two days, but you failed to do so," read part of the letter.

The legal representatives said Highlanders ignored several demands to settle the outstanding amount.

"We have been instructed to demand payment of the stated amount within 48 hours of this letter, plus our 10 percent collection commission, failing which our strict instructions are to institute legal proceedings against you," the letter further stated.

Mr Sengweni confirmed that the matter is now headed for court but declined to disclose additional details.

"I confirm that my client is owed US$5 820, but I cannot discuss the issue any further, except to say that we are headed to court," he said.

The latest lawsuit adds to mounting legal and financial troubles facing Highlanders. Last year, the club was also sued by assistant coach Agent Sawu in a separate dispute over alleged unpaid dues.

Sawu is demanding US$6 000 in signing-on fees as well as his monthly salary for the whole of 2026, arguing that the club unfairly terminated his contract before its expiry date of December 31 last year.

The former national team player is being represented by Victor Kucherera of Wallace Law Chambers, who declined to comment on the ongoing matter.
