A scheduled Annual General Meeting (AGM) for Dulibadzimu FC was halted after the club's vice chairperson, journalist Rex Mpisa, successfully obtained a court interdict blocking the proceedings.
The interdict was granted on Wednesday by Mbonisi Makwena, preventing the AGM and elections that had been scheduled to take place on Thursday.
Mpisa challenged the legality of the meeting, arguing that it had not been properly advertised in accordance with governing regulations and that it should have been convened at the conclusion of the 2025 football season.
He also raised concerns over the absence of reports that would ordinarily be presented to members during an AGM.
The matter was brought before the court under case number BTBPCG55/26, with club chairperson Christian Magwali, secretary-general Mandla Moyo and the club cited as respondents.
Part of the court order states: "The 1st and 2nd respondents, or anyone acting in their capacity, are barred from conducting the Annual General Meeting on the 4th of June 2026."
Speaking after securing the interdict, Mpisa said his objective was not to block the AGM permanently but to promote transparency, accountability and proper governance within the club.
"This is not stopping the AGM. It is demanding that an AGM of a team of such a magnitude, partly sponsored by the Municipality of Beitbridge, cannot be operated like someone's tuckshop," he said.
"The people of Beitbridge must be fully informed of all developments, which is what I am humbly requesting. The team has had a lot of executive turnover, with many frustrated by a few individuals."
The dispute has brought renewed attention to governance issues at the club, with concerns being raised about administrative procedures and stakeholder participation in decision-making processes.
Dulibadzimu FC, one of Beitbridge's prominent football clubs, has experienced significant leadership changes in recent years, with some members calling for greater transparency in the management of club affairs.
The interdict means that the AGM and planned elections cannot proceed until the legal issues raised by Mpisa have been addressed or the court order is lifted.
Club officials had not publicly responded to the allegations at the time of publication.
