Police in Marange have arrested five suspects in connection with the theft of nearly 500 litres of diesel siphoned from excavators belonging to the Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC) at the Chiadzwa diamond fields.
The suspects, identified as Solomon Manjokota (47), Remember Dube (34), Dennis Chiyadzwa (34), Nyondeni Malunga (28), and Blessing Madhosi, all from Marange, are facing allegations linked to the theft of approximately 480 litres of diesel valued at US$960.
Acting Manicaland police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the arrests and said the breakthrough came after a tip-off received by ZCDC officials.
According to police, a report of the theft was made to ZRP Marange on June 3, 2026, after fuel had been siphoned from company excavators operating at the Chiadzwa diamond fields.
Initial investigations yielded no leads until June 7, when ZCDC official Didymus Mudzengerere received information regarding the stolen fuel and alerted company security personnel.
Security guards subsequently laid an ambush and intercepted Manjokota, who was allegedly transporting the diesel in plastic containers using his vehicle to Mutsago Business Centre.
Investigations revealed that Manjokota had allegedly been tasked by Dube, Chiyadzwa and Malunga to deliver the fuel to Madhosi, who intended to purchase it.
"On June 7, 2026, Didymus Mudzengerere, a ZCDC official, received a tip-off in connection with the stolen diesel and advised his security guards who laid an ambush," said Asst Insp Chinyoka.
"They managed to apprehend Manjokota, who had been tasked by Dube, Chiyadzwa and Malunga to carry the stolen diesel using his motor vehicle in plastic containers to Mutsago Business Centre where they wanted to sell it to Madhosi."
Following his arrest, Manjokota allegedly implicated the other suspects, leading to the arrests of Dube, Chiyadzwa, Malunga and Madhosi.
Police said the suspects were later taken for indications on June 8, during which further information was gathered regarding the movement and intended sale of the stolen fuel.
A total of 480 litres of diesel was recovered from Madhosi's shop at Mutsago Business Centre, resulting in the full recovery of the stolen property.
"The total value stolen is US$960 and all was recovered. Investigations are still ongoing," said Asst Insp Chinyoka.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the theft and whether additional suspects may have been involved.
