HIGHLANDERS have reportedly placed a US$200 000 valuation on rising star Mongameli Tshuma as CAPS United intensify their interest in signing the talented attacking midfielder during the mid-season transfer window.

The Bulawayo giants are understood to be unwilling to negotiate below the asking price for the 24-year-old, who still has two years remaining on his contract after emerging as one of the club's standout performers this season.

Tshuma's future has become one of the biggest talking points in local football following Highlanders' recent players' strike over outstanding salaries and winning bonuses.

Although coach Benjani Mwaruwari insisted after Bosso's 2-1 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League victory over MWOS that Tshuma had merely been rested, Zimpapers Sports Hub reported that the midfielder was among a group of players affected by the week's labour dispute.

Brighton Ncube, Archford Faira and Reward Muza were also omitted from the travelling squad after failing to train during the week.

The off-field unrest has coincided with growing speculation linking Tshuma with a move to CAPS United, who are reportedly eager to strengthen their squad for the second half of the season.

Rumours gathered pace on Saturday after Tshuma was seen at Rufaro Stadium watching CAPS United's 2-2 draw against Triangle United while Highlanders were away in Norton facing MWOS.

His appearance in Harare fuelled speculation that the Green Machine are preparing an official move for the Warriors midfielder, whose reputation has risen significantly over the past six months.

Highlanders chief executive officer Denzil Mnkandla confirmed the club was aware of the transfer speculation but said no formal approach had been made.

"We are aware of the rumours, but no official communication has come from CAPS United regarding the player," Mnkandla said.

Despite the absence of an official bid, sources say CAPS United regard Tshuma as one of their priority targets because of his versatility, creativity and attacking ability.

Tshuma has enjoyed a remarkable rise since joining Highlanders from Hwange, quickly establishing himself as a key player under Mwaruwari with a series of impressive performances that earned him his maiden Warriors call-up.

His rapid development has also brought increased expectations from the Bosso faithful, with some supporters demanding greater consistency as Highlanders have endured an inconsistent campaign.

The club's financial challenges, highlighted by the recent players' strike, have further intensified speculation over the futures of some of its key players, including Tshuma.
